The film that kicked off the McConaissance is getting a TV show

Dave Hanratty

Lincoln Lawyer TV show

The Lincoln Lawyer is back.

Matthew McConaughey, however, is not.

Let’s just get that out of the way.

As for the aforementioned Lincoln Lawyer; that was the 2011 drama that should be recognised as officially ushering in the McConaissance, rather than his stellar turn in True Detective three years later.

Wherever you stand on that whole debate, it’s safe to say that McConaughey is excellent as Mickey Haller in the star-studded Lincoln Lawyer, and that the character is worth further exploration regardless of who is stepping into the suit.

Haller originally sprang from the pen of author Michael Connelly and has appeared in six novels to date, usually conducting business from the back of his town car – hence the title and subsequent nickname, you see.

Though it’s taken longer than you might have expected, a television show is now officially in development.

Variety reports that American network CBS has put the wheels in motion with David E. Kelley of Chicago Hope, The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Public, Boston Legal, Big Little Lies and Mr. Mercedes fame on board to write and executive produce.

Decent pedigree, that.

There’s little detail beyond that aside from the expectation that the show will essentially amount to the continuing legal adventures of Haller, nor any hint of who will be cast.

McConaughey feels an unlikely candidate to return to the small screen, but stranger things have happened.
