Lindsay Lohan does a Steve McClaren and adopts a fun faux European accent

JOE

Lindsay Lohan has left fans baffled after a recent Steve McClaren impression.

The Mean Girls actress was giving an interview in Greece about a new business venture with friend Dennis Papageorgiou where she adopted Steve’s famous “talk in a faux European accent” trick.

Out with the New York twang, in with the… let’s call it a worldly appreciative accent.

Talking to reporters, Lindsay was asked why she had started a nightclub venture in Greece, speaking in an interesting broken accent throughout.

She also made time to talk about the refugee crisis in Europe and her recent humanitarian work. All while speaking in a new clipped accent, with passionate European mannerisms to boot.

Talking to the Daily Mail about the interview, Lindsay said the accent had come as a result of her time trying to study six languages simultaneously.

“It’s a mixture of most of the languages I can understand or am trying to learn,” she told Mail Online.

“I’ve been learning different languages since I was a child. I’m fluent in English and French can understand Russian and am learning Turkish, Italian and Arabic.”

For our money though, we reckon she’s been taking tips from that European trendsetter Steve McClaren.

As a small reminder, here’s the time Steve McClaren adopted a faux Dutch accent for an interview in 2008.

Call him Shteeve.

Odd? Just a little bit. But it definitely started a trend. Four years later, when Joey Barton found himself on loan at Marseille, he adopting the same tactic, going for a lovely faux French accent.

As for why people do this, we’re not quite sure. Maybe it’s an attempt to make yourself more easily understood if you have a strong accent.

Maybe all three suffer from accent impersonation syndrome.

Or maybe it’s justa nice way to add a little va va voom to interviews.
