Louis Theroux has ‘a couple of ideas’ about making a documentary on Donald Trump

Theroux’s take on Trump would be fantastic to see.

After returning to our screens with The Night In Question, Louis Theroux continues to examine some of the most controversial and important subjects in US society.

Over the course of his illustrious career, the documentarian has travelled around the world to tell various stories but in terms of his most recent work, Theroux has shown a keen interest in US affairs.

For example, the Dark States series detailed the rising crime levels in Milwaukee, sex trafficking in Houston and the drug crisis harming communities in West Virginia.

Elsewhere, Theroux’s work in Altered States and Talking to Anorexia were also filmed in the US.

As for Trump, it has previously been reported that Theroux is keen to make a documentary about the US president and in a recent interview with the Huffington Post, the broadcaster did say that he has ‘a couple of ideas’ in development.

“Sometimes people assume that because we’ve got this complicated and rather troubling figure in the White House, and because the landscape has changed so much politically, that it therefore means that my subject choice is different or people I formerly viewed as fringe are now mainstream. But actually, I don’t know that that has necessarily been the case so far,” said Theroux.

As for his next documentary feature, Theroux did previously express an interest in examining alt-right characters like Milo Yiannopoulos, but he seems to have cooled on that idea.

A Trump documentary appears more likely, but Theroux did admit that he’s finding it hard to find the best narrative approach.

“Basically, I have not yet found a way of doing it (Trump documentary),” he added.

“It’s so hard because he keeps changing and also he’s so much the focus of everyone’s journalistic attention. It would be a challenge to bring something new to the party, I’ve got a couple of ideas but I don’t know whether I’ll do them or not.”
