Louis Theroux meets Carole Baskin in new Tiger King documentary

Charlie Herbert

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, she’s hitting our screens again!

A year on since we all delved into the mad, bad world of Joe Exotic, and a decade since Louis Theroux himself first met the guy, Louis will now be meeting his arch nemesis Carole Baskin.

As part of a new documentary set to be released on BBC Two in the coming weeks, Theroux will interview Baskin in a chat which is sure to provide some classic Louis content.

The news was confirmed by Mindhouse Productions in a tweet shared on Thursday.

The documentary entitled Louis Theroux: Shooting Joe Exotic will see everyone’s favourite documentary maker return to the world of tigers, ten years on from first meeting Joe in 2011 as part of his documentary ‘America’s Most dangerous Pets.’

Speaking about the upcoming feature length doc, Theroux said: “This is one of those quintessentially American stories, taking place in the heartland of Oklahoma, with a cast of characters almost too colourful and larger-than-life to be believed.

“I spent eight or nine days filming at the park back in 2011, over the course of three separate visits. I’d forgotten how much we shot until I went back into the footage during lockdown. It’s extraordinary how much was there.’

Louis filmed the new programme at the end of last year, and the special is set to look at what happened to Exotic since they last met (which is A LOT), and the efforts going in to proving his innocence and getting the 57-year-old out of prison.

As Tiger King revealed to us all last year, Exotic is currently serving a prison sentence for animal abuse and the plot to hire someone to kill Baskin.

Baskin on the other hand, has become a cult star since the release of the seven-episode Netflix documentary last March, even appearing on the US version of Strictly Come Dancing.

Expect plenty of probing questions from Theroux that manage to catch his interviewees off guard, and some eye-opening revelations from the CEO of Big Cat Rescue. Louis always has a knack of getting his interviewees to open up in ways that even they can’t believe whilst providing some beautifully memeable moments throughout.

I wonder whether we’ll finally get a confession on the fate of Baskin’s second husband though?
