In fairness, dancing killer robot dolls are always going to be scary.
There were a number of movie trailers to hit the web this week but only one of them featured a villain that set the internet abuzz.
This was the teaser for Megan (styled M3GAN), a new horror produced by James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring, Malignant) about an android doll designed to look like a little girl that can dance and kill people – sometimes at the same time going by the clip released.
Allison Williams (Get Out, Girls) stars in the movie as Gemma, a roboticist at a toy company that uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN (short for Model 3 Generative Android), a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally.
As such, when Gemma unexpectedly gains custody of her orphaned niece Katie (Violet McGraw), she enlists the help of her M3GAN prototype.
However, this decision has horrific consequences as the doll begins to develop a mind of her own and an unhealthy obsession with Katie.
Feeling like a contemporary update of ’80s classic killer doll movie Child’s Play, Megan is directed by Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) and is written by Akela Cooper (Malignant) based on a story idea by Cooper and Wan.
It lands in Irish cinemas on 13 January. You can check out its trailer below.
