Not to overstate the matter, but Irish Mammies are the best mammies in the world.
The perfect balance between pure, smothering love and the uncontrollable need to know where you are at every second of the day really does lead to the kind of hilarious story that spills out on this week’s episode of Irish First Dates.
Harris, who admits to being a bit of a mammies-boy from the get go, is on a date with Micha, who is surprised to learn that his parents are still together, as she tells him that she is from a broken home.
The pair, both of whom are from Blanchardstown in Dublin, seem to be hitting it off really well, until… yep, you guessed it, Harris’ mammy rings him right in the middle of the date.

Now, do you reckon Harris – who surely tells his mammy everything – didn’t tell her that he was heading off on this date that evening
Or, much more likely, he DID tell his mammy, and despite knowing that he was on a date, she rang him anyways, probably just to check in, and see how the date was going so far?
Yeah, we’re guessing the second option as well…
First Dates Ireland is on RTE 2 tonight (Tuesday 6 March) at 9.30pm.
