The film's latest remake only came out a few weeks ago.

Our TV movie pick for tonight is Man on Fire (Thursday, 18 June), the 1987 adaptation of A.J. Quinnell's 1980 thriller novel.

Famously remade as a film starring Denzel Washington in 2004 and as a Netflix TV show earlier this year, the original screen version sees Scott Glenn play Creasy, an ex-CIA agent burnt out on combat after his stint in the Vietnam War.

Reluctantly, he takes a job as a private bodyguard for a wealthy family in Italy, guarding their 12-year-old daughter Sam (Jade Malle) against the threat of a Mafia kidnapping.

Though initially John is fed up with watching Sam, he soon begins to genuinely care for the child, who awakens in him a tenderness he never felt before.

"When she is abducted, Creasy's fiery rage is unleashed, and he embarks on a bloody revenge spree," the IMDB plot synopsis adds.

Co-starring Brooke Adams, Danny Aiello, Jonathan Pryce, and Joe Pesci, the original Man on Fire is airing on TV tonight/tomorrow morning on the channel Legend at 12.50am. It's also available to rent on the Sky Store.
