Woody, Buzz and all the rest of the gang will be returning to our screens in 2017, it has emerged.

There are quite a number of films primarily made for children that are perfectly acceptable for adults to love and the Toy Story series is close to, if not at the very top of that list.

With that in mind, we were delighted to hear this morning that Pixar will be making a fourth instalment of the ridiculously popular series, news that was revealed in the rather low-key setting of a conference call that Disney chief Bog Iger was making with financial analysts to discuss company earnings.

According to Empire, chief creative officer at Pixar, John Lasseter, who has had a huge role to play in all of the Toy Story films so far, will direct the fourth instalment of the series, while Rashida Jones (star of The Social Network and Parks and Recreation) and Will McCormack will be in charge of the script, having previously worked on the romantic comedy Celeste and Jesse forever.

Some fans of the series will question the need for a fourth movie in the series considering that it had been all wrapped up quite perfectly in Toy Story 3 in an ending that we don’t mind admitting brought more than a solitary tear to our eye, as Andy went off to college and left all of his toys to start a new life at Sunnyside Daycare.

That said, considering that Toy Story 3 earned more than a billion dollars at the box office and that the series’ reputation alone will nigh on guarantee that the next movie will taste similar success, it is a fairly understandable move from Pixar chiefs.

Besides, we’re not going to say no to another episode in the life of Woody, Buzz and company, even if it’ll do very well to have the same emotional effect on us as its predecessor.

Those damn onions!
