Happy 20th anniversary, The Matrix!

On the 11th of June in 1999, sci-fi cinema was changed forever.

On that day, the Wachowski Siblings brought us The Matrix to Irish screens, and with it they cemented the effortless cool of bullet-time, Keanu Reeves, leather trench-coats, Carrie-Anne Moss, choosing between the red pill and the blue pill, and so much more.

It went on to win four Oscars, and from what now feels like a teeny tiny $63 million budget, it went on to make over $460 million at the worldwide box office, while the two cinematic sequels, the video games, the graphic novels, the animated series, and so much more expanded on The Matrix universe as we know it.

The influence of the movie can still be felt in movies today, up to and including the fact that there is apparently a fourth Matrix movie on the way, so now seems like as good a time as any to celebrate The Matrix’s greatness by checking it out on the big screen again!

Omniplex Cinemas all around the country will be screening the modern classic for one night only, on Friday 12 July, and you can get your tickets to the screenings right now!

In the Republic Of Ireland, the following Omniplex cinemas will be showing the movie: Arklow, Cork, Dundalk, Limerick, Rathmines, Sligo, Tralee, and Wexford.

In Northern Ireland, these Omniplex cinemas will be screening The Matrix that night: Antrim, Banbridge, Bangor, Belfast (Kennedy Centre), Belfast (Dundonald), Craigavon, Derry, Larne, Lisburn, Newry, and Omagh.

And, of course, you can see this and many more movies each month for just €20 thanks to the new My OmniPass, which you can find out more about right here.
