The much-anticipated action TV series has been filming in Ireland.

Netflix's previously untitled upcoming TV series spin-off of its action movie franchise Extraction has been given a name: Mercenary.

The two Extraction films were released in 2020 and 2023 to huge viewership and acclaim. They each follow Australian mercenary Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) on different, highly dangerous extraction missions.

Mercenary, meanwhile, will take place in the world of Extraction, but will follow a new group of characters.

The plot synopsis reads:

Described as an "epic global thriller", Mercenary is being filmed in Ireland and Morocco.

Louise Hooper (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Sandman) and Tim Southam (Foundation, One Piece) will each direct four of the eight episodes.

Extraction movie spin-off

The news about Mercenary follows Netflix's recent announcement that the Extraction universe will also expand to South Korea with the spin-off film Tygo.

Directed by Lee Sang-yong (the hit South Korean franchise The Roundup), the movie will star Don Lee (Train to Busan), Lee Jin-uk (Squid Game, Sweet Home), and Lisa of Blackpink (The White Lotus).

The action flick revolves around the title character, a former child soldier turned mercenary, who gets revenge on Korea’s underworld after a mission gone wrong.

AGBO, the production company founded by Anthony and Joe Russo (The Avengers films), is executive producing both Mercenary and Tygo.

Release dates for the two projects have not yet been set.
