The return of Mike Myers and 6 more movies and shows to watch this weekend

Famous murder-mysteries, big Marvel blockbusters and undercover spy thrillers are also on the menu for the weekend.

Here are all of the movies and shows you should be checking out in cinemas and at home to celebrate the end of another week.

To kick things off, here are the movies which will all be available on the big screens around Ireland from Friday, 6 May.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS

It has been six years since the first Doctor Strange movie, and the sequel sees icon Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spider-Man) behind the camera. This time, Strange finds himself protecting a girl from across the Multiverse from the Scarlet Witch (Elisabeth Olsen).

And now on to the stuff you can watch at home this week, starting with…

THE STAIRCASE

The dramatised adaptation of one of the most jaw-dropping documentaries in recent memory. This mini-series will do a deep dive on the life of Michael Peterson (played by Colin Firth), an apparently loving husband and father, who finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation following the suspicious death of his wife Kathleen (Toni Collette).

The first three episodes are available to watch with your NOW Entertainment Pass right now, with the rest of the series arriving weekly on Thursdays.

THE PENTAVERATE

Somehow connected to his 1993 movie So I Married An Axe Murderer, Mike Myers returns to multi-role comedy, playing no less than eight characters in this new show about a secret society that faces a dangerous threat from within. Can a Canadian reporter save them – and the world?

All six episodes are available to watch on Netflix right now.

THE WILDS SEASON TWO

Picking up from where the well-received first season left us, the teenage girls on the isolated island are still recovering from the knowledge that [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS], and they soon discover on a nearby island that they are not the only ones here.

All episodes of the second season will be available to watch on Prime Video from Friday, 6 May.

HERE TODAY

Directed, co-written by and starring comedy legend Billy Crystal, this movie takes a look at burgeoning friendship between a veteran writer (Crystal) and a New York singer (Tiffany Haddish), and how generation gaps can often be hugely beneficial for friendships.

The movie is available to watch with your NOW Cinema Membership from Friday, 6 May.

THE CONTRACTOR

This action-thriller tells the story of discharged U.S. Special Forces sergeant James Harper (Chris Pine), who risks everything for his family when he joins a private contracting organisation. Co-stars Kiefer Sutherland, Gillian Jacobs, Ben Foster and Eddie Marsan.

The movie is available to watch on Prime Video from Friday, 6 May.

THE LAST LETTER FROM YOUR LOVER

Based on a book from the same author of Me Before You, this romantic-drama tells the story of a journalist (Shailene Woodley) who discovers a series of love letters from the 1960s and sets out to discover the truth behind the affair at the heart of them.

The movie is available to watch with your NOW Cinema Membership from Sunday, 8 May.
