One of the best action movies of the 21st century is on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

Some have even called it one of the best movies of the past 25 years.

Our TV movie pick for tonight is Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the sixth and best entry in the ongoing Mission: Impossible film series.

The action spy sequel sees Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his Impossible Missions Force (IMF) team join forces with CIA assassin August Walker (Henry Cavill).

This is in an effort to stop a mysterious extremist named John Lark and a group of terrorists known as the Apostles, who have stolen three plutonium cores for nuclear bombs.

The terrorists have plans to use the weapons to dismantle the existing world order.

Thanks to Cruise’s increasingly death-defying stunts, the film’s slightly darker tone, its greater focus on the psychology of its hero, and franchise addition Cavill famously reloading his fists as if they were guns, Fallout is considered by many to be the best Mission: Impossible entry to date.

In fact, it remains a high point for Hollywood action cinema in general.

IndieWire ranked Fallout in sixth place in its list of the best action movies of the 21st century.

This is as the hit podcast, The Big Picture, recently named it as the 21st best film of the century – period.

And with the latest Mission: Impossible entry, The Final Reckoning, in cinemas now, what better time to catch up on Fallout?

The film is airing on TV tonight on the channel Film4 at 9pm. It is also currently streaming on Paramount+.
