The movie was nominated for seven Oscars and is one of two films made by the same director airing on TV this evening.
One of the best mystery shows of recent years has returned for a second season on Prime Video but if that is not for you, here are the movies airing on tv this Saturday night, starting with:
Wayne’s World – Comedy Central – 9pm
“Wayne’s World! Wayne’s World! Party time! Excellent!”
12 Strong – Film4 – 9pm

Mary Queen of Scots – RTÉ2 – 9pm
This 2018 historical drama tells the story of Mary, Queen of Scots (Saoirse Ronan) and her attempt to overthrow her cousin Queen Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie).
Inheritance – AMC UK – 9pm
In this thriller with a lowly 23% Rotten Tomatoes score, a wealthy patriarch suddenly passes away, leaving his daughter (Lily Collins) with a shocking secret inheritance that threatens to destroy the family.
Mojave – Legend – 9pm
From the writer of The Departed comes this odd thriller about a cat-and-mouse game between a troubled Hollywood film director (Garrett Hedlund) and a homicidal drifter (Oscar Isaac) that he meets in the desert.
Fast & Furious 7 – Sky Showcase – 9.15pm
Widely considered one of the best entries in the long-running vehicular series of blockbusters.
The Commitments – RTÉ One – 9.45pm
Director Alan Parker’s funny and vibrant adaptation of Roddy Doyle’s novel of the same name about a Dublin soul band is a bona fide classic.
Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe in Mississippi Burning, our pick for tonight
The Purge – ITV4 – 10.30pm
In this dystopian thriller which launched a franchise, a family (led by Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey) holed up in their home find themselves targeted by a gang on a night when all crime is legal in the US.
Brake – Legend – 10.50pm
Stephen Dorff plays a Secret Service Agent held captive in the trunk of a car by terrorists in this Buried-style thriller.
Austin Powers in Goldmember – Quest – 11pm
“Groovy baby!”
Rampart – AMC UK – 11.05pm
Woody Harrelson stars as a corrupt cop in ’90s Los Angeles in this crime thriller co-written by acclaimed novelist James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential).
Mississippi Burning – RTÉ2 – 11.10pm
Our pick for tonight is this 1988 crime thriller focusing on two FBI agents (Gene Hackman, Willem Dafoe) as they look into the disappearance of three civil rights workers in ’60s Mississippi.
Throughout the course of their investigation, the agents are met with hostility by the town’s residents, local police and the Ku Klux Klan.
Also directed by The Commitments’ Alan Parker and loosely based on true events, Mississippi Burning’s unflinching depiction of racist violence, its taut story and its charismatic lead turns from Dafoe and Hackman as mismatched investigators who gradually find common ground led to the movie being nominated for seven Oscars – with it ultimately winning the Best Cinematography award.
As well as airing on TV tonight, the film is available to rent on Amazon, Apple TV and the Sky Store.
Overlord – Film4 – 11.35pm
This well-reviewed 2018 action-horror follows several American soldiers who are dropped behind enemy lines during World War II and discover secret Nazi experiments.
Mechanic: Resurrection – Channel 4 – 11.35pm
A forgettable Jason Statham action sequel aside from a few nifty set-pieces.
Highlander – BBC One – 11.45pm
“There can be only one!”
