Some might even say better than the original?

Well, it’s official.

The hot weather is here to stay, with a sweltering weekend ahead of us, and a weather advisory already published.

The warmth is meant to last all through the night, which means staying in just might be the better option.

And what better to do with an evening in than watch a great film?

Here’s JOE’s top picks for the movies on the small screen this Wednesday (13 July).

Jeepers Creepers – Horror Channel – 9pm

A staple film for sleepovers in the early 2000s, just some good old fashioned schlocky horror.

Lucy in the Sky – Film4 – 9pm

Nowhere near as good as the song.

Chappie – Great! Movies – 9pm

The little robot that could, featuring Die Antwoord as themselves?

Captain Phillips – ITV4 – 9.05pm

Note to self; never let Tom Hanks pilot ANYTHING, as a disaster always seems to follow him.

Jerry Maguire – Film4 – 11.25pm

Cuba Gooding Jr won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his turn in this film about a sports agent trying to make the world a better place. One of Tom Cruise’s best performances, to boot.

Lethal Weapon 2 – Turner Classic Movies – 11.45pm

You’ll never hear the phrase “diplomatic immunity” in the same way ever again.

Aliens – ITV4 – 11.45pm

Our top pick for tonight is one of the best sci-fi sequels ever put to film, and what a rollercoaster it is.

While there are some elements of the original’s claustrophobic horror in there, Aliens decides to go full action, and show humanity fighting tooth and nail against the Xenomorphs.

This movie also cemented Sigourney Weaver as one of the coolest cinema protagonists in history, especially with the fight at the end. What a film.

Eaten by Lions – BBC Two – 11.45pm

A great British comedy about an estranged dad, a wedding, and, of course, lions.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
