One of the funniest comedies of the past few years is among the movies on TV tonight

It may not be the weekend yet but that doesn’t mean you can’t relax with a good movie tonight.

Here’s what films are airing on the box.

Olympus Has Fallen – Film 4 – 9pm

In this decent action thriller, Gerard Butler plays a secret service agent who finds himself trapped inside the White House in the wake of a terrorist attack and must save the president.

Girls Trip – E4 – 9pm

In this 2017 comedy, four lifelong friends who have grown distant reunite to travel to New Orleans for a festival.

The Color Purple – BBC Four – 9pm

Steven Spielberg adapts the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name following a black Southern woman (Whoopi Goldberg) who struggles to find her identity over four decades.

Copycat – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

An agoraphobic psychologist (Sigourney Weaver) and a female detective (Holly Hunter) must work together to take down a serial killer who copies serial killers from the past.

This psychological thriller earned very good reviews upon its release in 1995.

The Girl on the Train – RTÉ2 – 9.30pm

Emily Blunt leads the cast of this solid psychological thriller about an alcoholic divorcée who becomes involved in a missing person investigation.

Misha and the Wolves – TG4 – 9.30pm

This acclaimed documentary tells the story of a woman whose Holocaust memoir took the world by storm.

However, a fallout with her publisher – who turned detective – revealed an audacious deception created to hide a darker truth.

Death Wish – ITV 4 – 10pm

A New York City architect becomes a one-man vigilante squad after his wife is murdered by street punks.

Charles Bronson stars in this 1974 action-drama which became a touchstone for the sub-genre of revenge films.

Christine – Horror Channel – 10.45pm

Horror legend John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing) adapts fellow horror legend Stephen King’s novel about a car with a mind of its own.

Run – BBC Two – 11.15pm

In this 2019 drama, a former drag racer steals his son’s car for one last joyride.

Blockers – Film 4 – 11.20pm

In our pick for tonight, three parents (John Cena, Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz) try to stop their daughters from losing their virginity on prom night.

Having garnered an 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Blockers does boast plenty of the raunchy gags you would expect given its premise.

That said, it also features empathetic performances, three-dimensional characters and a deeper level of maturity than you might think, elevating it far above most American sex comedies.

Full Metal Jacket – Turner Classic Movies – 11.35pm

Legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick helms this powerful Vietnam war drama.
