Stephen Porzio

Twilight’s Taylor Lautner leads a surprisingly packed cast.

It is Friday.

The weekend is finally here.

And if you’re staying in tonight, you can enjoy one of the following films.

Rocky II – ITV4 – 9pm

Boxers Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) return to the ring in this hit sequel.

Hanna – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Ireland’s own Saoirse Ronan plays the titular teenage assassin in this excellent action-thriller.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me – Comedy Central – 9pm

The second in the spoof spy trilogy.

Das Boot – Great! Movies Classic – 9pm

This German World War II drama set on a submarine is widely considered as being among the best war films of all time.

Midway – Film4 – 9pm

For a less well-regarded WWII epic, you can check out this film from Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Moonfall) featuring amongst its cast Dennis Quaid, Patrick Wilson and Woody Harrelson.

Abduction – Virgin Media One – 9pm

Twilight’s Taylor Lautner stars in this action thriller as a high school student who sets out to uncover the truth about his life after finding his baby photo on a missing persons website.

Despite a great cast – Alfred Molina, Jason Isaacs, Lily Collins, Maria Bello, Michael Nyqvist and Sigourney Weaver all feature – Abduction fails to live up to its interesting premise, devolving into a forgettable Jason Bourne knock-off.

Critics seemed to agree upon its 2011 release with the film earning a lowly 5% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

47 Metres Down – RTÉ2 – 9.50pm

In this survival horror, two sisters on vacation become trapped in a cage at the bottom of the ocean as great white sharks circle nearby.

Paint Your Wagon –  TG4 – 9.50pm

Clint Eastwood, Jean Seberg and Lee Marvin star in this ’60s western musical.

The Imitation Game – BBC One – 10.45pm

This historical drama – which won the Oscar’s Best Adapted Screenplay award – focuses on the life of mathematician Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his work decrypting German intelligence messages for the British government during World War II.

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three – RTÉ One – 11.15pm

Four armed men hijack a New York City subway car and demand a ransom for the passengers in this influential ’70s crime drama.

Robin Hood – Turner Classic Movies – 11.20pm

Acclaimed filmmaker Ridley Scott’s gritty take on the legend starring Russell Crowe.

Sleepless – Film4 – 11.45pm

In this underrated crime thriller taking place over the course of one night, Jamie Foxx plays a cop with a connection to the criminal underworld who must rescue his kidnapped son.

Blockers – Channel 4 – 12.10am

One of the funniest comedies of the past few years.

Papi Chulo – RTÉ2 – 12.25am

Irish filmmaker John Butler (Handsome Devil) writes and directs this comedy-drama about the unexpected friendship that develops between a TV weatherman (Matt Bomer) and a Latino day laborer (Alejandro Patiño).
