Movies on TV Friday 10 May

THE WEEKEND.

Oh yes oh yes oh yes indeed.

It is, in fact, the weekend.

Not a Bank Holiday weekend, but a weekend nonetheless.

So yeah, movies.

Here’s the best available on the box tonight – Friday 10 May.

The Abyss – SyFy – 9pm

Vintage sci-fi horror from James Cameron.

Non-Stop – E4 – 9pm

Liam Neeson in an utterly ridiculous, so-bad-it’s-good thriller set on an airplane.

Quantum of Solace – ITV2 – 9pm

Casino Royale 1.5.

Manchester by the Sea – RTÉ 2 – 9.40pm

Highly intense and patient drama that led Casey Affleck to Oscar gold.

Gangster Squad – ITV4 – 10pm

Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling go all old-timey gangster movie in an effort that really should have been a good deal better.

Goodfellas – TCM – 11pm

A significantly superior gangster movie.

This Is England – Film 4 – 11.10pm

Superb, unflinching coming-of-age tale as a young boy falls in with a gang and is exposed to racism in the process in 1980s England.

The Stone Roses: Made of Stone – Film 4 – 1.15am

Shane Meadows again, this time chronicling the popular Manchester indie band as they make their comeback in 2012.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
