Movies on TV Friday 20 December

FIVE MORE SLEEPS.

We made it, guys.

It’s the Friday before Christmas.

Not long to go now. How does it all look on the movies-on-TV front, though?

Let’s take a look-see on this Friday 20 December…

Training Day – TCM – 9pm

Denzel Washington took home the Best Actor Oscar for his dominating turn as Alonzo Harris in this fast-paced, tension-filled thriller.

Ronaldo – Virgin Media One – 9pm

In-depth documentary on the best footballer of modern times not named Lionel Messi.

Event Horizon – SyFy – 9pm

Critically panned at the time of release and visibly affected by studio interference, yet Event Horizon has held up surprisingly well over time. A great cast and good scares help.

Rocky – ITV4 – 9pm

The original and arguably the best.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets – Film 4 – 9pm

A mess. A failure. And yet oddly compelling for those reasons.

The Night Before – RTÉ 2 – 9.30pm

Christmas-themed shenanigans with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anthony Mackie.

Final Destination 2 – Comedy Central – 10pm

Ah yes, noted comedy Final Destination 2.

Marianne and Leonard: Words of Love – BBC Two – 11.10pm

Documentary focusing on the tragic love story between Leonard Cohen and Marianne Ihlen.

Must Love Dogs – RTÉ One – 11.50pm

Diane Lane and John Cusack navigate the whole ‘romance’ thing with the assistance of – you guessed it – dogs.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
