A fantastically violent hidden gem is among the movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

A really great mix of flicks on the telly tonight!

Here we are! Friday is upon us! Let us celebrate with some movies!

Star Trek – Film4 – 6.30pm

The hot ‘n’ sexy reboot features young Kirk, Spock and Uhura trying to stop a terrorist from the future from destroying the Earth. A very entertaining sci-fi action adventure.

Austin Powers in Goldmember – Comedy Central – 9pm

The third outing for Mike Myers playing multiple characters in this spoof of James Bond, this time accompanied by none other than Beyonce.

Homefront – Virgin Media One – 9pm

Jason Statham plays a former DEA agent who moves to a small town with his family, only to end up crossing paths with the local meth-dealing kingpin (James Franco). If you don’t like this Statham movie, don’t worry, because…

Mechanic: Resurrection – E4 – 9pm

Jason Statham plays a master assassin who is tasked with three jobs, with the catch being he has to make them all look like accidents, or the bad guys will kill his girlfriend (Jessica Alba).

Zombieland – Film4 – 9pm

Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin star in this mix of comedy and horror set in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse – MTV – 9pm

The third one. Jacob takes his shirt off a lot, while Bella and Edward make googly eyes at each other for two hours.

Rocky III – ITV4 – 9pm

The one with Mr. T.

The Good Liar – RTÉ2 – 10pm

Ian McKellan plays an elderly con artist who targets rich widow Helen Mirren in order to swindle her out of all her riches. A decent thriller.

Cape Fear – BBC One – 10.40pm

Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro reunite once again for this violent psychological thriller about a convict who looks to exact revenge on his lawyer (Nick Nolte) and his family.

Ready Or Not – Film4 – 10.45pm

Our pick of the night! Margot Robbie-lookalike Samara Weaving headlines this darkly funny horror about a young bride who marries into a rich but eccentric family.

On her wedding night, the family force her to take part in a game, only to discover she is the prey and can only remain in the family if she survives the night.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates – Channel 4 – 12.15am

Zac Efron and Adam DeVine are two brothers who try to prove that they can find nice ladies to bring to their sister’s wedding, but end up inviting two best friends (Anna Kendrick and Audrey Plaza) that are even bigger party animals than they are.

The Cabin in the Woods – Film4 – 12.35am

Another great mix of horror and comedy, with a group of college friends spending the weekend at – yep, a cabin in the woods – but it isn’t long before a mix of monsters begin to stalk them.

The Hole in the Ground – RTÉ2 – 1.05am

Without a doubt one of the best Irish horror movies ever made.

Over the rest of the weekend, why not check out some of these:
