Dan Hedaya and M. Emmet Walsh in Blood Simple, our TV movie pick for tonight

Source Code – BBC One – 11.40pm
Jake Gyllenhaal plays a soldier repeatedly sent into an eight-minute digital recreation of a train explosion, tasked with determining the identity of the terrorist who bombed the commuter.

Blood Simple – Film4 – 1.15am
Our pick for tonight is this ’80s neo-noir crime thriller revolving around an affair between a Texas bartender (John Getz) and his boss’ wife (Frances McDormand).

Learning of the relationship, the boss (Dan Hedaya) hires a hitman to kill the couple but the assassin (M. Emmet Walsh) has his own agenda.

The debut movie of the Coen brothers (who would go on to make such other crime classics as Fargo, Miller’s Crossing and No Country for Old Men) – Blood Simple’s twisty labyrinthine plot, moody atmosphere, great performances and unforgettable final line make it well worth seeking out.

As well as airing on TV tonight, the crime thriller is also available to rent on Apple TV, Curzon and Google Play. The trailer for Blood Simple can be watched right here:
