Movies on TV Monday 18 February

Monday is upon us.

Remain calm.

The week is just beginning but we’re not about to break from our regular service, nay, our sacred duty of sifting through the schedules and isolating the best movie options for your viewing pleasure.

So let’s take a look-see at what’s on the box tonight, Monday 18 February…

Non-Stop – Film 4 – 6.55pm

Liam Neeson mills about in a fairly convoluted ‘Die Hard on a plane’ thriller in which his alcoholic air marshal must solve a mid-flight mystery before it’s too late.

Crazy, Stupid, Love – RTÉ 2 – 9.30pm

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone debut their undeniable chemistry in a romantic dramedy that also boasts Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon and Marisa Tomei.

The Social Network – TG4 – 9.30pm

Endlessly watchable and quotable account of how Facebook rose into the powerhouse, er, social network that has dominated our lives for the past 15 years.

David Fincher behind the camera, Aaron Sorkin on dialogue, the ace combination of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross delivering an Oscar-winning score, and a great cast combine for a modern classic.

The Chronicles of Riddick – ITV4 – 10.05pm

The second film in the Richard B. Riddick saga finds Vin Diesel’s anti-hero revamped from a vicious serial killer with some trace of a soul still inside into a bona-fide champion of the futuristic downtrodden.

Chronicles is all over the place in many ways – Judi Dench as some kind of Force Ghost takes the cake – but this writer enjoyed it and so it makes the list.

Tangerine – Film 4 – 11.15pm

Excellent shot-entirely-on-an-iPhone indie in which a transgender prostitute discovers that her boyfriend, who is also her pimp, has been cheating on her. Drama ensues.
