Movies on TV Monday 27 May

As Mondays go, this is pretty damn great.

It’s a new week, yes it is.

Let’s all strap in and accept it.

There’s a Bank Holiday on the horizon, though, so get hype.

In the meantime, distract your brain with a movie on the television.

Here’s how it looks on this Monday 27 May…

Super 8 – Film 4 – 6.35pm

Decent Spielbergian sci-fi effort that set J. J. Abrams on his blockbuster way.

Air Force One – SyFy – 9pm

Harrison Ford does not take kindly to terrorists invading his airspace.

The Last Boy Scout – TCM – 9pm

Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans team up in Tony Scott’s violent, foul-mouthed adventure.

Trainwreck – RTÉ 2 – 9pm

Amy Schumer navigates a frenzied dating world and stumbles upon Bill Hader, who may or may not be the one.

John Cena and LeBron James provide charming support.

Locke – TG4 – 9.30pm

Tom Hardy’s most underrated film and performance sees the man encased in a car for the entire duration of the film, trying to keep his world together via a series of stressed-out phone calls.

Full Metal Jacket – TCM – 11pm

The horrors of war, brilliantly realised by Stanley Kubrick.

You Were Never Really Here – Film 4 – 11.20pm

Joaquin Phoenix is outstanding in this patient and brutal meditation on revenge and the dire consequences that come with it.

The Devil’s Rejects – SyFy – 11.30pm

Rob Zombie’s masterpiece as a director, for whatever that’s worth.

The Guest – Film 4 – 1.05am

Excellent throwback to the glory days of John Carpenter with a superb soundtrack to boot; The Guest finds Dan Stevens’ stranger turn a family’s life upside down in deeply sinister fashion.
