Movies on TV Monday 29 July

We regret to inform you that it is indeed Monday.

The most challenging day of the week.

Let’s call the whole thing off and just watch movies instead, yes?

Here’s the best available on the box on this Monday 29 July…

X-Men 2 – E4 – 8pm

The best X-Men film. By a mile.

Die Hard with a Vengeance – Sky One – 9pm

Whisper it but Die Hard with a Vengeance is this close to being as good as the original.

A relentless mix of incredible set pieces, inspired buddy cop misadventures and a superb turn from Jeremy Irons as the villain; this one starts at pace and never lets up.

Arrival – Film 4 – 9pm

Sensitive and powerful sci-fi drama with Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker.

Ted 2 – RTÉ Two – 9pm

Mark Wahlberg (human being) and Seth McFarlane (anthropomorphic bear) return in this foul-mouthed sequel.

Striking Distance – TCM – 9pm

A water-based Bruce Willis tracks a dangerous serial killer.

The Nice Guys – ITV4 – 10pm

Not enough people saw this and thus we’re never getting a sequel, which is a tragedy.

Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, both rather down and out, team up to solve a mystery as chaos of the strange and hilarious kind unfurls around them. Watch it.

The Crazies – SyFy – 10pm

Seemingly normal townsfolk turn ultra-violent and, well, crazy in this survival horror.

Outbreak – TCM – 11.10pm

Further infectious trauma as Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo and Morgan Freeman struggle to contain a deadly virus.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
