A solid Western horror is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

Vampires

It’s from an undisputed master of horror.

Need a movie to help you pass the time until the weekend is here?

Well, you’ve come to the right place as JOE has listed some of your best film options from what is airing on TV this Thursday evening.

Without further ado…

Quantum of Solace – ITV4 – 8pm

Definitely not the best or worst of Daniel Craig’s outings as Bond but it is arguably the most underrated.

Vampires – Sky Sci-Fi – 9pm

Our pick for tonight stars James Woods as Jack Crow, the tough leader of a team of vampire hunters who must retrieve an ancient relic that, if acquired by vampires, would allow them to walk in the sunlight.

Directed by horror legend John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing), Vampires is certainly a step down from his best work.

That said, the movie is immensely watchable thanks to its impressive action sequences and special effects, its beautiful desert vistas and its fine cast, including Twin Peaks’ Sheryl Lee.

The Predator – Film4 – 9pm

The chaotic and convoluted if entertaining fourth entry in the legendary action-horror franchise.

Lethal Weapon 2 – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Danny Glover and Mel Gibson return in this buddy cop action sequel.

The Lady in the Van – BBC Four – 9pm

In this acclaimed comedy-drama, a man (Alex Jennings) forms an unexpected bond with a woman (Maggie Smith) living in her van that is parked in his driveway.

Final Girl – Horror Xtra – 9pm

In this 2015 action horror, Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Stillwater) plays a young woman who is trained from childhood to defeat a group of high school boys who hunt and kill their female classmates.

Half Past Dead – ITV4 – 10.10pm

This Steven Seagal action vehicle has a 3% score on Rotten Tomatoes, so it’s probably best to avoid.

My Old Lady – BBC Four – 10.40pm

Another comedy-drama with Maggie Smith, this time set in France.

Death Trench – Horror Xtra – 10.50pm

This World War I set zombie horror starring Rossif Sutherland (Possessor) has a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Kid – Film4 – 11.10pm

The great character actor Vincent D’Onofrio directs this Western featuring Chris Pratt, Dane DeHaan and Ethan Hawke amongst its cast.

Ransom – Turner Classic Movies – 11.20pm

If you missed this ’90s gem when we recommended it last week, you have another chance to catch it.
