Saturday night is movie night.

Usually, anyway.

Let’s see what today has in store if you’re staying put.

Here’s the most intriguing options on this Saturday 16 November…

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra – Film 4 – 6.45pm

A deeply silly film, and therein lies its charm.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – ITV2 – 7pm

The dramatic conclusion.

Independence Day – Channel 4 – 8pm

Welcome to Earth.

Clueless – Comedy Central – 8pm

A much less murderous spiritual successor to Heathers that paved the eventual way for Mean Girls.

The Dark Knight – Sky One – 9pm

Heath Ledger. The Joker. You know the rest.

Unforgiven – TCM – 9pm

TCM appear to be contractually obligated to show Clint Eastwood’s classic revisionist western at least once or twice a week but it’s really, really great so here it is again on our list.

Kingsman: The Secret Service – Film 4 – 9pm

Presumably programmed before the forthcoming prequel got pushed back to September.

End of Days – SyFy – 9pm

It’s Arnie versus our own Gabriel Byrne in this turn-of-the-century supernatural affair.

Mad Max: Fury Road – RTÉ 2 – 9.40pm

Not only one of the best action films of recent years, but of all time.

Runaway Jury – TG4 – 9.40pm

If you’d prefer a perfectly acceptable John Grisham adaptation with the likes of John Cusack, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman and Rachel Weisz, here you are.

Ronin – ITV4 – 10pm

Tense thriller featuring Robert De Niro and a terrific car chase.

Guardians of the Galaxy – BBC One – 11pm

An unlikely hit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that thus far has produced two of its most entertaining movies. Here’s the first one.

Bonnie & Clyde – RTÉ One – 12.15am

In which Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway embody two of history’s most notorious criminals.

Jimi: All is By My Side – BBC Two – 12.35am

Andre ‘OutKast’ Benjamin steps into the shoes of the iconic Jimi Hendrix.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
