The weekend has landed.
Saturday is traditionally a decent day for movies on the box, and yes, indeed, the cinematic gods are smiling upon us right about now.
Truly a stacked evening ahead on this Saturday 28 September, so let’s not waste any further time, eh?
The Pacifier – RTÉ One – 6.35pm
Vin Diesel attempts his version of Kindergarten Cop with mixed results.
Fantastic 4 – Film 4 – 7pm
Josh Trank’s doomed reboot of the Fantastic Four has a lot of problems, but you can see the intention in there in the form of some strong individual moments. A noble failure.
Spider-Man 3 – SyFy – 8pm
Sam Raimi signs off with a misjudged and over-stuffed mess that one can’t help but enjoy a little bit.
Hell or High Water – Film 4 – 9pm
Exceptional thriller in a modern-day Western style as brothers Chris Pine and Ben Foster conduct a series of small town bank robberies, with Jeff Bridges’ surly lawman on their tail.
About Time – E4 – 9pm
Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams battle for love in this well-regarded time travel-themed rom-com.
About a Boy – TG4 – 9.35pm
An atypically cynical Hugh Grant learns to let people in again.
Casino – Dave – 10pm
As anticipation continues to intensify for The Irishman, here’s a reminder of the power that Scorsese, De Niro and Pesci are capable of together.
Ant-Man – RTÉ 2 – 10pm
Paul Rudd’s first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Annie Hall – BBC Two – 10.35pm
If you can separate the art from the artist, Annie Hall remains an excellent deconstruction of neurotic relationships.
The Wicker Man – Film 4 – 11.05pm
The final cut of the classic original horror.
Sorcerer – Film 4 – 1.10am
A real ‘not for everyone’ thriller as four criminals take on a life-threatening long-haul truck driving job.
Blazing Saddles – RTÉ One – 1.20am
Revered slapstick Western comedy with Gene Wilder.
