Military Wives – Channel 4 – 9pm
This 2019 British comedy drama stars Sharon Horgan, Kristin Scott Thomas and Jasyn Fleming. With their partners away serving in Afghanistan, a group of women on the home front form a choir and quickly find themselves at the centre of a media sensation and global movement.
Maika Monroe stars in our pick of the night, It FollowsIt Follows – The Horror Channel – 9pm
Our pick for this evening is one of the decade’s scariest horror films. Released in 2014, It Follows is a slow-burn psychological horror which follows the story of a woman who is pursued by a supernatural entity after a sexual encounter. Her only way of getting rid of it? To pass it on to somebody else.
Directed by David Robert Mitchell and starring Maika Monroe, Keir Gilchrist and Olivia Luccardi, It Follows is one of those movies that gives you chills for weeks after viewing. You won’t look at a stranger on the street the same again.
Anger Management – RTÉ2 – 9.35pm
Celebrating its 20 year anniversary, this comedy classic starring Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson is gracing our screens this evening. The 2003 film follows Dave Buznik (Sandler) a businessman who is wrongly sentenced to an anger management program, where he meets an aggressive instructor (Nicholson).
Carlito’s Way – ITV4 – 11pm
Legendary filmmaker Brian De Palma directs this 1993 crime classic starring Al Pacino and Sean Penn. The flick follows Pacino’s titular character Carlito Brigante, a Puerto Rican ex-con in New York looking to retire from his life of crime. However, Carlito find it difficult to leave his past behind and gets dragged back into the criminal underworld.
An underrated Pacino film, the 1993 movie has become a cult classic and is definitely worth a watch.
Lethal Weapon 4 – Turner Classic Movies – 11pm
Mel Gibson and Danny Glover reprise their roles as Riggs and Murtaugh for the fourth instalment of the classic buddy cup film series. The 1998 flick is the latest in the series and is definitely worth a revisit ahead of this year’s reboot, Lethal Finale.
Yes, Joe Pesci got nominated for a Razzie for Worst Supporting Actor, but… it’s Lethal Weapon for crying out loud!
Hancock – Channel 4 – 11.15
Some say Hancock walked so the Marvel franchise could run. Okay, nobody actually says that, but if you want to see what superhero movies were like pre-Marvel then now is your chance.
With a screenplay by Breaking Bad’s Vince Gilligan, Hancock stars Will Smith as a reckless, alcoholic superhero who tries to change his image after a PR specialist he saves offers to help him.
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three – RTÉ1 – 11.45pm
This 1974 classic based on a book of the same name follows a ruthless criminal and his gang as they hijack a crowded New York subway train and demand a $1million ransom, threatening to shoot a passenger every minute after the deadline expires.
The Beguiled – BBC1 – 12pm
