Movies on TV Sunday 13 January

S U N D A Y.

The end of the week. The start of the week.

Let’s not get into that debate. Instead, let us gather around the television and see what movies will emanate from the box on this Sunday 13 January…

Behind Enemy Lines – Film 4 – 6.55pm

Did you know that Owen Wilson once made a serious action movie? Alongside Gene Hackman, no less?

In the Line of Fire – Virgin Media One – 9pm

Clint Eastwood’s veteran secret service man does his utmost to thwart John Malkovich’s crafty assassin in this sharp early 90s thriller.

Haywire – SyFy – 9pm

Steven Soderbergh tries to make MMA star Gina Carano into an action hero. It doesn’t quite work, but Haywire is decent ridiculous fun with a stacked supporting cast.

Jaws – ITV4 – 10pm

Jaws seems to be on the ITV schedule every week now, but it’s Jaws so we don’t have a major problem with it.

Hard Rain – SyFy – 11pm

Christian Slater and Morgan Freeman face off after a small town heist goes awry. Don’t they always go a little bit awry in the movies?

The Guard – Film 4 – 11.10pm

Brendan Gleeson perfectly treads the line between hapless and genius in this black comedy.

Inside Llewyn Davis – Channel 4 – 1am

Oscar Isaac steps into the downtrodden shoes of a struggling folk musician who rubs people the wrong way but insists he’s just misunderstood.

One of the Coen Brothers’ strongest recent works, Inside Llewyn Davis boasts terrific songs and fine support from Carey Mulligan, Adam Driver, F. Murray Abraham, John Goodman and Justin Timberlake.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
