Movies on TV Sunday 25 November

If ever there was a day for the couch.

That day is Sunday.

This day is Sunday 25 November. Where did the year go?

Forget it, don’t give yourself the existential headache. Switch off and watch a movie instead.

Here are your options today and tonight…

Back to the Future Part II – Channel 4 – 4.35pm

Even better than Back to the Future Part I. Don’t @ us.

The Mummy Returns – ITV2 – 4.55pm

Brendan Fraser is due a big blockbuster comeback, no?

Creed – ITV2 – 7.20pm

As the sequel prepares to hit cinemas, what better time to catch up on the pugilistic efforts of young Adonis Creed?

Michael B. Jordan is tremendous as the heir to Apollo’s troubled legacy and Creed also gives Rocky himself Sylvester Stallone further rich material to sink his teeth into.

Fantastic Four – E4 – 8pm

Before we started taking superhero movies seriously again, you had the zip-bang electricity of 2005’s Fantastic Four.

The stakes are low enough and it feels very of the time but the likes of Chris Evans – showcasing the kind of charisma that he would later weaponise – Michael Chiklis and Nip/Tuck man Julian McMahon have fun here.

Dark City – SyFy – 9pm

Brooding, unnerving and underrated sci-fi from the director of The Crow.

The Counsellor – RTÉ 2 – 9pm

How can a film directed by Ridley Scott, written by Cormac McCarthy (The Road, No Country For Old Men) and starring Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz and Brad Pitt fail?

The Counsellor asks and answers that question in truly frustrating style. Here is a film where the characters speak in long poetic riddles as the action moves like a glacier.

The plot focuses on Fassbender’s titular cartel lawyer who aims to strike the deal of his life, only to bring down a series of bloody dominos in the process.

Some have called it “The worst film of 2013” and while it isn’t that, it will definitely get a reaction from you.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back – Film 4 – 9pm

Another ‘recommend’ in the sense that this isn’t a great one but has its moments and is a bit weird when you weigh it up.

Tom Cruise will indeed never be going back to the Jack Reacher universe after this flop, for that character will now live on in a TV series without him.

Still, if you want to see The Cruiser systematically break a guy apart limb by limb, this is for you.

The Hangover – TCM – 9pm

Knockabout hangover-themed comedy with Bradley Cooper.

Death Race – ITV4 – 11pm

Jason Statham teams up with a muscle car as Joan Allen rattles off the worst one-liner of her entire career.
