Deadpool – E4 – 9pm
Ryan Reynolds is the Merc with a Mouth.
Ransom – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm
Our main choice for you this evening.
The kind of film your parents didn't want you to watch on VHS back in the glorious '90s, given how damned sleazy – yet highly entertaining – it is.
Mel Gibson is a billionaire whose son is kidnapped. Delroy Lindo is the negotiator caught in the middle of Gibson and his wife Rene Russo. Gary Sinise is the cop on the case. Can they get the kid back in one piece?
Ransom is mostly famous for the big long scene in which Gibson turns the tables on the bad guys, which is a pretty great bit of business. Oh, and he shouts "GIVE ME BACK MY SON!"a lot.
The Mule – RTÉ One – 9.30pm
An elderly man winds up working as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel. Clint Eastwood directs and stars.
Book Club – Film4 – 11.20pm
Charming comedy about a group of older women who read 50 Shades of Grey at their book club. Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen star.
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers – Turner Classic Movies – 11.30pm
The fifth one, which has nothing to do with the recent David Gordon Green trilogy or the two Rob Zombie movies.
Brightburn – Channel 4 – 12.45am
'What if Superman but bad?', essentially.
Raw – Film4 – 1.25am
Excellent and grisly French horror that deserves a better time slot.
