Movies on TV Thursday 13 December

Thursday.

One step closer to the weekend. That little bit closer to Christmas.

Celebrate with a movie. Here are your television-based options on this Thursday 13 December…

World War Z – Film 4 – 9pm

Brad Pitt vs zombies (and the studio) in the stitched-together and appropriately shuffling adaptation of Max Brooks’ popular novel.

A sequel with David Fincher at the helm is allegedly on the way, but don’t hold your breath.

Source Code – ITV4 – 10pm

Duncan Jones has been on a bit of a downslide the last few years with Warcraft (better than you’ve heard) and Mute (as bad as you’ve heard) so why not take in one of his better efforts?

Jake Gyllenhaal must find and defuse a bomb on a train inside a tight time frame or else perish, but he has the chance to do it over and over again. Groundhog Day, except really grim.

Pandorum – SyFy – 10pm

Underrated and grisly space oddity with Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid.

Fearless – TCM – 11pm

Jeff Bridges survives a plane crash and subsequently questions the nature of life and death and the world around him in Peter Weir’s 1993 drama.

Riddick – Film 4 – 11.15pm

The conclusion (for now, at least) of Vin Diesel’s sci-fi trilogy finds anti-hero Richard B. Riddick stranded on a dangerous planet with little to no company until some mercenaries show up.

The first half of Riddick is reminiscent of – stay with us here – WALL-E in that it plays as mostly a silent film, which is both a bold and brilliant choice. It all gets a bit generic by the end, but it’s a strong ending to a decent series.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
