Movies on TV Thursday 18 October

The weekend is coming. Can you feel it?

Sounds like a Hard-Fi lyric, that. Remember Hard-Fi?

Alas, there’s no mid-2000s British indie heroics about tonight’s line-up of movies for you to pick from on the box.

So let’s get to it. Here are your cinematic options on this Thursday 18 October…

Rise of the Planet of the Apes – Film 4 – 6.45pm

A new trilogy begins as Andy Serkis takes centre stage in the form of Caesar, a genetically-modified chimp who may have more humanity than the people who have been experimenting on him.

The kick-off to what turned out to be an excellent modern-day update.

Faster – SyFy – 9pm

The Rock has especially intense vengeance on his mind in the kind of underrated low-budget indie thriller that he’s probably not likely to pop up in anymore due to him being the walking embodiment of box office gold nowadays.

Plus, it’s got Billy Bob Thornton and he’s generally always good value.

Licence to Kill – ITV4 – 9pm

James Bond goes dark long before Daniel Craig came along.

Speed – Film 4 – 10.55pm

The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down.

The Yards – Film 4 – 1.10am

Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix get their brooding drama on opposite Charlize Theron and James Caan in this turn of the century slow burn about a New York family destined for tragedy.
