Movies on TV Thursday 7 February

One step closer to the weekend.

It still feels a little bit like January, doesn’t it?

Maybe we need to revise this whole ‘month’ system.

For now, we’ll stick with an old reliable – a list of decent films that will appear on your television screening this evening, Thursday 7 February.

12 Years a Slave – More4 – 9pm

Steve McQueen’s brutal account of slavery features an all-star cast – Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Lupita Nyong’o, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Sarah Paulson and Brad Pitt.

Sisters – Film4 – 9pm

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are the life of the party. John Cena steals the show.

Jumper – SyFy – 9pm

Hayden Christensen makes another fist of fronting a sci-fi adventure alongside Rachel Bilson, Jamie Bell and Samuel L. Jackson.

Death Wish 2 – ITV4 – 10.45pm

Charles Bronson wishes he was dead. Again.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows – TCM – 11pm

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law get their Holmes and Watson on again as the villainous Moriarty comes into focus in Guy Ritchie’s detective sequel.

Goon – Film4 – 11.20pm

Seann William Scott’s bouncer finds that his propensity for violence translates rather well to the ice hockey rink in this funnier-than-you-might-expect bruising comedy.

The Wind Rises – Film4 – 1.10am

Typically striking and vivid animation from the master that is Hayao Miyazaki, this time throwing some colourful poetic licence on the life and times of a World War II engineer.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
