Movies on TV Tuesday 4 January

Tuesday.

You may well have returned to work today.

You may well need a movie, regardless of your situation.

Let’s see what the TV gods hath bestowed upon us on Tuesday, 4 January…

Star Trek – Film4 – 6.25pm

In which J.J. Abrams reboots the classic science fiction series for the big screen along with the help of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Karl Urban.

Baby Driver – RTÉ 2 – 9pm

Edgar Wright unleashes his big bag of flashy directorial tricks on this fittingly fast-paced tale of a getaway driver who just wants to get out of the game and concentrate on his new love.

The well-received comedic thriller – 92% on Rotten Tomatoes – stars Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Eiza González and, er, Kevin Spacey.

Rocketman – Film4 – 9pm

Our main choice this evening.

Taron Egerton IS Elton John.

And he does a damn fine job of it in Dexter Fletcher’s vivid jukebox musical.

Under Siege – ITV4 – 9pm

Steven Seagal goes from cutting up food to slicing up terrorists.

Dead Calm – Turner Classic Movies – 11.20pm

A husband (Sam Neill) and wife (Nicole Kidman) take a trip on a yacht in order to get over a recent tragedy, only to encounter a charismatic stranger (Billy Zane) who is not what he seems.

Terminator Genisys – Film4 – 11.25pm

Essentially the Terminator movie that acts as a ‘Greatest Hits’ version of itself, offering up new variations on memorable scenes and characters gone by, only nowhere near as impressive.

Raw – Film4 – 1.50am

One of the best horror films of recent years, so naturally enough it’s on at 2am. Great.

This French shocker tells the story of a young girl who goes off to college and discovers she has a taste for meat, one that threatens to consume not just her but others, too.

Record this one, it’s excellent.
