Movies on TV Wednesday 28 November

Midweek. Watch. A. Movie.

You know the drill by now, guys.

Whether you’re waiting out Storm Diana or just in need of a Wednesday night – 28 November – escape, we have you covered.

Tonight’s list is almost exclusively in the thriller/action mould, so settle in for some intensity

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer – E4 – 8pm

Aka the one that spelled the end for this iteration of the Fantastic Four, allowing Chris Evans to get his Captain America on.

As with the 2005 original, FFROTSS (rolls off the tongue, that one) is light and breezy until it randomly isn’t – wait til you see how Dr. Doom deals with his military authority problem here – and is a bit disjointed overall.

Still, the Silver Surfer looks great and Laurence Fishburne was a good choice for his vocals.

Déjà Vu – SyFy – 9pm

Decent if utterly ridiculous time travel thriller yarn with caffeinated visuals as standard from the late Tony Scott.

Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer, Paula Patton and Jesus Christ himself Jim Caviezel hold it down.

On Deadly Ground – TCM – 9pm

Steven Seagal goes environmental.

The bar fight is somewhat legendary. “Put your hands up! Put your hands up!

Star Trek Into Darkness – Film 4 – 9pm

You do wonder if Star Trek Into Darkness would be better received if JJ Abrams hadn’t pulled his Mystery Box nonsense and just been up front about who Benedict Cumberbatch was playing.

A shame, as Cumberbatch is good value as a vicious sociopath and thus a decent foil for Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and company.

STID loses further points for an emotional rug-pull cop out of an ending and having Spock engage in a brutal beatdown (Lads, it’s Spock!) but despite all that it’s fine, honest!

Killer Elite – ITV4 – 11.05pm

Jason Statham teams up with Clive Owen and Robert De Niro (yep) for a mercenary/spy thriller that has its moments.

Transporter 2 – Film 4 – 1.20am

That man Jason Statham again, this time removing a bomb from his car by essentially flying upside down in mid-air and connecting perfectly with the hook of a crane.

What more do you need?

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
