Pretty decent mix on tonight, if we’re being honest.

Listen, we’ve been doing this “best movies on TV this evening” piece for a while now, and we’ve seen some great nights, and some terrible nights.

And while tonight’s mix can’t be described as great, it is definitely better than most.

TUESDAY 24 SEPTEMBER

Dante’s Peak – Film4 – 6.55pm

Pierce Brosnan is the … volcano scientist? … who is sent to what was believed to be a long-extinct volcano in Smalltown USA, only for it to not as extinct as everyone thought. Also stars Linda Hamilton, here not shooting robot assassins in the face. This is very much the Deep Impact to Volcano’s Armageddon.

Mrs. Doubtfire – E4 – 8pm

Robin Williams gets into Old Lady Drag in order to still see his kids after he and his wife file for divorce. Still one of the best family comedies ever made.

Star Trek Beyond – Film – 9pm

The third in the sexy young reboot of the Star Trek series sees the ship crash land and the crew spread out over an alien planet, being hunted by Idris Elba’s evil space warlord. Good fun.

Paul – ITV2 – 9pm

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost cross paths with an alien (voiced by Seth Rogen) when they visit Comic-Con, and get tied up in a government plot, so they decide to try to help the guy get back home. Exactly the kind of space movie you’d expect from Pegg, Frost, and Rogen.

Spider-Man 3 – Syfy – 9pm

The third and most definitely worst of the Tobey Maguire webslinger movies, but 100% worth a look for that iconic Emo-Peter Parker street dance scene.

Prometheus – Film4 – 11.20pm

The prequel to Alien brings us back to where the creatures actually come from (kind of), and the film should be commended by taking a basic haunted house in space movie, and attempting to make it so grandiose. But if you’re just looking for scares, then it still has Charlize Theron and Idris Elba and Noomi Rapace being chased around spaceships.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
