One of TV’s most iconic characters ever will be gracing the big screen.
A movie based on the classic crime drama series Murder, She Wrote is in the works, according to reports.
The original show ran for 264 episodes over 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996. It centred around Jessica Fletcher (played by Angela Lansbury), a mystery writer and amateur detective who becomes involved in solving murders.
Renowned for Lansbury’s performance – she won four Golden Globes for her role in the series – and its light tone that made it comfort viewing for many, Murder, She Wrote remains one of the most successful and longest-running television shows in history.
First reported by Above the Line before being confirmed by Variety, a big screen version of the series is on the way – with writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo already being hired to pen the screenplay.

The pair are best known for their work on the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black and the upcoming movie Dumb Money, which chronicles the GameStop short squeeze of January 2021.
Boasting a large ensemble cast that includes Paul Dano, Pete Davidson and Seth Rogen, the latter will arrive in cinemas in Ireland on 22 September.
According to reports, Blum and Angelo became attached to the Murder, She Wrote movie project before the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike and will not recommence their work on it until the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reach a deal.
As such, we may be waiting a while for the film to be completed.
