Netflix are making a true crime documentary series on the most notorious serial killer in US history

Grisly but essential for fans of true crime documentaries.

Somewhere, there’s a sociological dissertation just waiting to be written about the correlation between the popularity of Making A Murderer and the timing of its release at Christmas.

Granted, we still make time for the likes of Elf over the holiday season, but the surge in popularity of the true crime genre definitely coincided with the world learning about the cases of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey over the festive period.

Ho, ho, homicide, it appears.

Grim, and yet, we’re utterly addicted.

On this note, Netflix will be hoping to emulate that success with their next feature, The Innocent Man, but the online streaming giant aren’t stopping there because they’ve just announced plans to make a four-part feature about Ted Bundy.

Emmy-winning documentarian Joe Berlinger is directing and executive producing the four-part project, titled Conversations With a Killer.

Shortly before his execution and after more than a decade of denials, Bundy confessed to 30 homicides committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978. The true number of victims is unknown and possibly higher.

Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes will be released on 24 January – exactly 30 years since Bundy was executed for the 1978 murder of Kimberly Leach.

The documentary series will feature previously unheard audio of interviews with Bundy while he was on death row in Florida.

The four-episode series will detail Bundy’s killings and the media frenzy around his trials, including the adoration of a number of women and his in-court marriage to Carole Ann Boone, who was testifying on his behalf.

Berlinger is familiar with Bundy’s life, having recently directed Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, a feature length film about the infamous serial killer (starring Zac Efron as Bundy).
