Netflix debut their new Star Trek series trailer, and it is nothing short of stellar

We’re going back to the final frontier.

This could be the one that finally puts Star Trek back on the cultural landscape.

While the original series with William Shatner was (and still is) hugely iconic, and the Patrick Stewart-starring The Next Generation was a massive success, none of the follow up shows ever reached those dizzy heights.

Which isn’t to take away from Deep Space Nine, Voyager or Enterprise, and while the Chris Pine reboot movies did decent business at the box office, it already looks like that series has run it’s course, too.

But Netflix just launched the new trailer for Star Trek: Discovery, and between the top-tier special effects and very impressive cast, it looks like this could be the one that will become our next must-watch sci-fi show.

So we’ve got Michelle Yeow (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire), Rainn Wilson (The US Office), Doug Jones (Hellboy) and more working with executive producers Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, American Gods) and Alex Kurtzman (Fringe, Alias).

The plot is set ten years before Kirk and co., with the crew of the USS Discovery at the forefront of the cold war between the Federation and the Klingons.

The first episode will debut on Netflix on 25 September – the day after it premieres on CBS in the States – with each additional episode coming out week-by-week for the rest of the fifteen-episode series.
