There will be no Kevin Spacey…

Netflix have announced that the final season of House of Cards will be just eight episodes and not feature the show’s main protagonist, Kevin Spacey.

Content chief at Netflix, Ted Sarandos, said that Robin Wright, who plays Claire Underwood, will be elevated to the central role in the series.

“We are excited to bring closure to fans,” Mr Sarandos said, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The fate of the show had been in question after Netflix cut ties with Kevin Spacey in November stating, “Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey”. The announcement was made following a number of allegations levelled against the actor.

All of Spacey’s scenes were also erased from the upcoming film All the Money in the World, in light of the allegations made against Spacey.

The shorter, eight episode season will be a marked contrast from the 13 episodes in all previous seasons.

Production of the series will resume in January.
