Netflix has just added 9 big movies to its library

Including a recent Oscar-winner and a mid-00’s rom-com “classic”…

Good ol’ Netflix.

While they’ve got some absolute crackers that are exclusive to its library (check them out here), Netflix also regularly update its library with other titles, from brand new releases to some absolute classics.

This week’s list of additions kicks off with…

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES

One of the many, many attempts to recapture the Young Adult adaptation craze by essentially mixing together Harry Potter and Twilight. This one features a pretty great cast – Alden Ehrenreich, Alice Englert, Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis, Emmy Rossum and Emma Thompson – but that was about it.

THE FATHER

Anthony Hopkins won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of an elderly father who rejects any and all help from his daughter (Olivia Colman), even as he begins to question his own reality.

GIRL IN THE PICTURE

95% on Rotten Tomatoes, this documentary looks into a very bizarre case of a murdered mother and her kidnapped son.

HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU

Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connolly, Bradley Cooper, Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson, Kris Kristofferson and Justin Long star in one of those overlapping story rom-coms that were all the rage about a decade ago.

INCANTION

The highest grossing Taiwanese horror film of all time (and released earlier in 2022, so kind of a brand new release), this sees a young woman trying to protect her family from a generational curse.

PERSUASION

Dakota Johnson, Cosmo Jarvis, Richard E. Grant and Henry Golding star in this sort-of-update adaptation of Jane Austen’s much-loved novel. It has a strong Fleabag vibe to it, if that is something you might be interested in.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

The director of Batman & Robin (!!!) cast Gerard Butler (!!!!) in this musical romance (!!!?!?!?!?!?!). It was nominated for three Oscars, but has a score of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes. So… yeah.

THE SEA BEAST

When a young girl stows away on the ship of a legendary sea monster hunter, they launch an epic journey into uncharted waters — and make history to boot. From the co-director of Moana and Big Hero 6, with a voice cast including Karl Urban, Jared Harris, Kathy Burke and Dan Stevens.

VALLEY OF THE DEAD

This Spanish zombie horror movie puts a bit of a spin on the usual undead proceedings by pitching the action against the events of the Spanish Civil War.
