Geralt of Rivia is ready for war.

There’s been a lot of buzz about the forthcoming TV adaptation of The Witcher.

Though the book and game series has been around in one form or another since the early 90s, it’s fair to say that the huge popularity of 2015’s The Witcher III: Wild Hunt has generated huge appeal in seeing Geralt of Rivia brought to life on the small screen.

Henry Cavill will be the man to do just that – even if news of his casting was met with mixed emotions from fans and newbies alike – as part of Netflix’s attempt to score big with a fantasy epic to fill that Game of Thrones void.

For anyone unfamiliar, The Witcher tells the story of, er, a Witcher. What’s that, you ask? Why, a fearless monster hunter for hire, of course.

The Witcher focuses on Geralt of Rivia; all battle-scarred and rogue-like, quick with dry wit and highly skilled at killing the most ferocious beasts that stalk a mysterious world.

Along the way he finds himself facing off against more human evils and plenty of political troubles. There’s plenty of potential here, so let’s hope they’ve nailed it.

The Witcher arrives later this year. Check out the first official trailer below.
