The trailer looks so good. Essential for crime addicts.

There isn’t a single genre that’s devoid of cliches and repetitive plot devices but given the explosion of interest in the crime genre, these similarities are a bit more prevalent and noticeable.

However, in their new show Criminal, Netflix look like they’re set to revolutionise the genre because the premise is genuinely unique.

The series will tell 12 unique crime stories but here’s the kicker, they’re spread across four different countries.

The 12-episode series reworks the procedural format by spreading it all over Europe with three episodes set in the U.K., Spain, France and Germany.

In terms of the cast, David Tennant, Hayley Atwell, and Emma Suárez are the main players but this looks very much like an ensemble piece.

Killing Eve writer George Kay is the showrunner on Criminal and the show looks like it’s a strong return to the cat-and-mouse drama that’s such a large part of the genre.

Criminal is released on Netflix on 20 September.

Take a look at what’s in store.
