Netflix has made itself known in recent years for putting out a whole lot of engrossing and fascinating true crime documentaries.

That looks set to continue with its new documentary film Nail Bomber: Manhunt, which dropped on the streaming service yesterday (26 May) and is already appearing in the platform’s top 10 most-watched movies and TV shows in Ireland.

The documentary recounts the 1999 London nail bombings. Over three successive weekends between 17 and 30 April 1999, homemade nail bombs were detonated in three areas in the English capital.

The bombings were aimed at London’s Black, Bengali and LGBT communities. They killed three people, including a pregnant woman, and injured 140 people.

The Netflix documentary details the race to find the far-right extremist behind the attacks.

It’s plot synopsis reads: “The story of how one man held London to ransom for 13 days in 1999. The far-right extremist detonated three bombs in Soho, Brixton and Brick Lane, hoping to start a race war.

“Instead, as the documentary reveals, he inspired ordinary people to stand up and take action, helping to catch him and ultimately bring him to justice.”

Nail Bomber: Manhunt is now streaming on Netflix and at the time of writing is the sixth most-watched film or show on the streaming service in Ireland.
