Part of the content the new channel will offer includes weekly NFL American Football coverage.

Virgin Media Television has announced it will be launching a new free-to-air TV channel on Wednesday (24 August).

Titled Virgin Media Four, it is described as a “general entertainment channel” and will offer a “mixture of home-produced and top international content”.

Examples of this content will include NFL American Football coverage and the first TV broadcast of series one of The Group Chat, the latter featuring journalists Gavan Reilly, Richard Chambers and Zara King discussing the news stories making headlines.

Meanwhile, the first in the three-part documentary series Two Sides will receive its Irish TV premiere at 9pm on Wednesday on Virgin Media Four.

The behind-the-scenes documentary is said to give an “unprecedented look at the monumental British and Irish Lions rugby tour and explores what transpired in the Springbok and Lions camps during the 2021 Tour of South Africa”.

Virgin Media Television Director of Content Bill Malone has stated that Virgin Media Four forms “an integral part” of Virgin Media Television’s new channel strategy.

“Virgin Media One is our flagship channel and home to VMTV’s biggest brands from Ireland AM to Virgin Media News; Virgin Media Two is now clearly a youth-focused channel, which has just enjoyed a ratings bonanza thanks to the strong performance of Love Island; Virgin Media Three has a particular focus on drama and now Virgin Media Four has joined our portfolio of channels as a General Entertainment channel with a mixture of home produced and top international content,” Malone explained in a statement.

Virgin Media Four is the second new television channel for Virgin Media Television this year, following the launch of the customer-only channel Virgin Media More.

The latest channel will be available on Virgin Media channel 110 and Saorview channel seven.
