Art at its very best, right here in Ireland.
One of the most-anticipated Irish documentaries of the year is Amanda Coogan: Long Now, which follows performance artist Amanda Coogan on her gruelling six week live exhibition I’ll Sing You A Song From Around The Town.
The show was originally hosted in the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin, becoming the gallery’s most successful exhibit of all time. This May, the documentary comes to the big screen for two special showings at the Irish Film Institute.
Director Paddy Cahill manages to capture the brilliance and intimacy of the performance, closely following Coogan as she worked six hours a day, five hours a week.
As well as exclusive footage of the performance, Cahill’s film features interviews with Coogan, concerning both her craft and her unique upbringing as a hearing child in a deaf family.
The documentary was previously screened as part of the Audi Dublin International Film Festival in February, and returns to the silver screen again for two dates; the first screening occurs on May 9, and will feature a Q&A with the director and Amanda Coogan. The second date, on May 23 with sign language interpretation by Amanda Coogan.
The event is perfect for any fan of the art who happens to be in Dublin at these times.
