We were not prepared for this level of awkwardness on First Dates

Soak it in.

Alan Loughnane

We can’t deal with all this awkwardness…

They say there’s certain things you shouldn’t discuss on a first date, politics is one, we can only assume that nipple tassels have a spot somewhere on that list.

First Dates Ireland has not yet returned, so at the moment, we’re making do with watching some of First Dates UK instead. It’s not quite the same (because we’ve basically known at least one person on every First Dates Ireland episode so far), but it’s not half bad either.

We’ve seen enough times at this stage how awkward the very first date can be, but few have made us cringe and squirm in our seats quite as much as the date between Liberty and Pearse.

Teaching assistant Liberty didn’t quite know what to say to stockbroker Pearse in the restaurant at times, as the conversation took some wild tangents and incredibly ended up on the topic of nipple tassels.

We felt for Pearse because he was obviously nervous and jumped from topic to topic without really settling on anything.

But, all is well that ends well as it was revealed that the pair did actually hit it off, and have been dating in the months since the show recorded.

So maybe we’re the ones doing it wrong, and Pearse is actually the clever one in this situation… we don’t think we’ll try his approach just yet though.
