OFFICIAL: Child’s Play and its terrifying doll Chucky are returning

Paul Moore

He’s back!

Ok, we’re not going to spoil every single Easter Egg in Steven Spielberg’s wonderful Ready Player One, but it’s very likely that everyone was thinking about one moment as they left the cinema.

It’s fucking Chucky!

Oh yes, the doll that sends chills down your spine is still a pop-culture behemoth and it appears that killing off a horror icon is anything but child’s play (see what we did there?)

Anyway, the notorious slasher is set to return as an eight-part TV series.

As many of you will know, the 1988 film revolved around a doll named Chucky who housed the soul of murderer Charles Lee Ray following a voodoo ritual to avoid the afterlife and possibly going to hell. Ominously voiced by the Oscar-nominated Brad Dourif, the horror proved to be a massive hit as it spawned six sequels, including last year’s feature Cult Of Chucky.

Don Mancini, who wrote the original story and directed three films in the franchise, confirmed the news of a new TV version of the cult-classic on his Twitter page.

Altogether now:  “Hi, I’m Chucky. Wanna play?”
