Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is Quentin Tarantino’s biggest hit in years

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood box office

QT is box office.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood has been out in Ireland for a couple of weeks now, and has proved divisive enough with critics and punters alike.

Generally, it’s gone down pretty well – 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and 83 on Metacritic if you put your trust in such review aggregators – but this one was always going to cause controversy.

If you’ve been living under a rock; the movie includes the character of Sharon Tate, who, in real life alongside four others, was brutally murdered by members of the Manson Family in 1969.

Though Margot Robbie’s Tate is a side role in the film, she is nonetheless a regular presence, underpinning Hollywood with dread as the days count down to that fateful awful night.

No spoilers, but, as you might expect, Tarantino puts his own questionable spin on things.

Aside from all of that, this is a movie in which not a lot happens, set to a deliberately patient pace.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt are both excellent, and there’s arguably a highly affecting power to the whole thing, but you can understand why someone might leave the cinema confused and irritated.

One thing is for certain; a lot of people have indeed been hitting up cinemas across the world to see it.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Tarantino’s ninth film has edged past the $200 million mark at the global box office.

Only one other original film this year has done so; Jordan Peele’s Us, which has banked $254.7 million.

Hollywood, meanwhile, is currently just shy of $240 million and is expected to finish the weekend on around $250 million.

To date, Django Unchained is QT’s biggest hit, raking in $425.4 million. Analysts predict that Hollywood could ultimately wind up at around the $400 million mark, with the film still set to open in markets such as Italy, Japan, and South Korea.
