One Battle After Another, this year's Oscar Best Picture winner, is finally available to stream at home.
Accessible through the service NOW, the movie is the latest from legendary writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood) and is a loose adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's 1990 novel Vineland.
Leonardo DiCaprio stars in the film as Bob Ferguson, a bumbling ex-revolutionary living off the grid in California who is raising his 16-year-old daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti), by himself.
This is after Perfidia (Teyana Taylor), Bob's fellow revolutionary/lover and Willa's mother, disappeared when Willa was a baby.
After years of lying low, the father and daughter's lives are threatened once again by the reemergence of Col. Steven J. Lockjaw (Sean Penn), a corrupt military officer who was once obsessed with Perfidia.
When Lockjaw sends troops to target Willa, Bob must reunite with his old comrades and join forces with newer revolutionaries (including Benicio Del Toro) in an effort to save her.
A wildly ambitious mix of action comedy, family drama and political satire/commentary, it's remarkable just how much of a crowdpleaser One Battle After Another winds up being.
That said, the movie does have something for everyone. Contained within the film are bravura car chases and hilarious slapstick humour, but also a powerful father-daughter relationship and a genuinely moving depiction of resistance in the face of oppression.
One Battle After Another was nominated for 13 awards at the most recent Oscars and won six, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Penn.
The movie is currently available to stream in Ireland and the UK through the service NOW.
